Local riding centre to launch confidence and wellbeing coaching

Post Category : Client News

FCM is proud to be working with Staffordshire based Harness Coaching CIC, who is partnering with Scropton Riding Centre to offer a new service at the established riding centre that aims to build confidence and wellbeing of young people in the calming presence of horses.

A free taster session will take place on Wednesday 8th May between 12.30pm and 2.30pm when education professionals, such as Special Educational Needs co-ordinators and Enrichment Coordinators, alongside local parent support groups, are invited to find out about this unique type of therapy.

The two hour session offers people the chance to see equine facilitated coaching, which uses the natural awareness of horses to allow individuals to understand their own reactions to stress and anxiety.

The sessions will be run by qualified Equine Facilitated Coaches Lizz Fields-Pattinson who founded Harness Coaching in 2018 and Steph Gaunt who recently teamed up with Lizz as a Director.

Both experts have spent their lives working around horses, are passionate about horses and how their unique herd dynamic make them excellent partners of the coaching process.  Lizz is a former Olympic standard groom and Steph is a British Dressage competitor and natural horsemanship trainer.

Talking about the upcoming sessions at Scropton Riding School, Lizz said: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Scropton Riding Centre and provide the opportunity for educational professionals to find out more about this unique type of coaching and see how it can help improve the wellbeing and confidence of young people.”

Steph who has delivered successful intervention and rehabilitation programmes, using horses, both in prisons with young offenders and the wider community added, “At the taster session visitors will see equine facilitated coaching in action and the team will be demonstrating how it can help their students, parents and wider family members to overcome a variety of mental or physical health issues.

The ultimate aim is to help people bring about positive changes in themselves that leads to greater self-belief.”

Chartered psychologist and former international groom Lizz Fields-Pattinson uses combined cognitive behavioural techniques and interaction with horses to create a different environment for people to experience coaching.

Mark Hopwell Charity Manager at Scropton Riding Centre spoke about the partnership with Harness Coaching: “As a charity dedicated to helping people, Scropton Riding Centre is delighted to be partnering with Harness Coaching CIC; as it means we can use our centre to reach even more people around the Midlands and beyond, who can benefit from a range of horse related activities to improve their lives.

“Together we are aiming to create a wonderful equine experience and hopefully finding a few new friends, supporters and riders, both able bodied and disabled, along the way.”
